U-space level 1 - EASA's proposal to a simplified approach
In June 2026, EASA presented a proposal aimed at making it easier to enter the U-space system. At the heart of the proposal is the introduction of so-called U-space airspace level 1 — a simplified version of the existing U-space framework.
But what exactly is U-space airspace level 1? Which services would be mandatory within it? What would change for UAS operators? And how would level 1 differ from the existing U-space concept, which would in future be referred to as level 2?
In this video, we take a closer look at the proposal.
Important note: U-space Level 1 is currently only a proposal. The changes have not yet been adopted. It is therefore possible that further amendments may be made as the legislative process progresses, or that the proposed regulation will ultimately not be implemented at all. The information presented in this video therefore reflects the status of the proposal as of August 2026.
